Organic Content Standard (OCS)

The Organic Content Standard (OCS) is a voluntary certification developed by Textile Exchange to verify the presence and amount of organically grown material in a product. It uses third-party certification to trace organic inputs through the entire supply chain—from certified farms to the final processor in a business-to-business transaction.

The OCS enables:

  • Verification of organic content in products

  • Transparent communication of organic claims to consumers and supply chain partners

  • Greater market access for organic fiber farmers worldwide

Only material from farms certified under organic standards approved by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) is eligible. Chain of custody is maintained through Textile Exchange’s Content Claim Standard (CCS), ensuring that certified inputs are not mixed or substituted during processing.

Products are certified as:

  • OCS 100 – containing 95–100% certified organic content

  • OCS Blended – containing at least 5% organic content mixed with non-organic material

The OCS focuses on verifying content and does not include processing, environmental, or social criteria. Additional rules apply to GMO screening, non-mulesed wool, and cotton fiber testing protocols.

Textile Exchange also manages the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and Recycled Claim Standard (RCS), among others, as part of a broader effort to support responsible sourcing and production across the textile industry. More information is available at Textile Exchange official website .
