Building global trust in GHG claims

September 1, 2025 - September 1, 2025

Greenwashing, or making misleading or false environmental claims, is a significant barrier to achieving climate targets as they murk the waters of true environmental efforts and erode trust in consumers.

Credible, consistent measuring and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints with third-party verification is a powerful way of eradicating greenwashing, enforcing transparency and putting all organizations on a level playing field.

IEC offers verification services for the measurement and reporting of environmental claims based on internationally recognized, standardized methodologies through IECQ, the IEC Quality Assessment System. These IECQ services focus on environmentally conscious design (eco-design) and carbon footprint declaration verification. They provide industries with independent verification that offers transparency and helps increase trust for environmental claims by regulators, public interest groups and consumers.

Services such as these are just one of the topics explored at an upcoming IEC Academy webinar that explores how conformity assessment schemes, international standards, innovative technologies and initiatives ensure accurate and comparable carbon accounting worldwide.

The public webinar, held on 1 September 2025 from 13.00-14.00 CEST, will feature international experts offering best practices for the use of standards to measure environmental impact and ensure the reliability of data as well as other initiatives under way.

The webinar is timed to align with the UN International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies (7 September), reinforcing the need for transparency in environmental reporting to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
