PEFC
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit organization that promotes sustainable forest management and the use of sustainably sourced wood and paper products.
PEFC operates in over 50 countries with a focus on Europe and has a more centralized structure than the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
PEFC certification is a voluntary process open to any forest owner or manager who wants to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable forest management. To be eligible for PEFC certification, a forest must meet a set of strict standards designed to protect forests, respect the rights of indigenous peoples, and conserve biodiversity. These standards are based on internationally recognized principles and criteria and are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure that they remain relevant and effective.
To obtain PEFC certification, a forest owner or manager must undergo an independent assessment of their management practices. This assessment is carried out by a third-party certification body accredited by PEFC. If the assessment is successful, the forest is awarded PEFC certification and can use the PEFC logo to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable forest management.
PEFC certification is widely recognized as a trusted and reliable way for companies to source wood and paper products from sustainably managed forests. It is used by businesses, governments, and consumers around the world to ensure that their products are sourced in a responsible and sustainable manner.
