Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF)
The Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (財團法人全國認證基金會, TAF) is Taiwan's national non-profit accreditation body. Established on September 17, 2003 through the merger of Taiwan's former accreditation bodies, the Chinese National Laboratory Accreditation (CNLA) and the Chinese National Accreditation Board (CNAB), it provides independent third-party accreditation services and oversees the competence of conformity assessment organizations throughout Taiwan. TAF was created as part of Taiwan's efforts to align its accreditation system with international trade and conformity assessment requirements promoted through the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). Its mission is to provide impartial and reliable accreditation services and to ensure that accredited testing, inspection and certification results are trusted both domestically and internationally.
International cooperation is a central part of TAF's work. The foundation is a member and signatory within the global and regional accreditation system, including Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global ACI) and the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC). Through Global ACI's international mutual recognition arrangements, including the former IAF MLA and ILAC MRA frameworks, accreditation granted by TAF is accepted by accreditation bodies, regulators and businesses around the world, helping Taiwanese products and services access global markets without unnecessary duplicate testing, inspection or certification. TAF also maintains cooperation agreements with accreditation bodies and technical organizations across Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East.
Today, TAF accredits organizations across a broad range of sectors, including testing and calibration laboratories, medical laboratories, inspection bodies, management system certification bodies, product certification bodies, personnel certification bodies, greenhouse gas validation and verification bodies, proficiency testing providers, reference material producers, biobanks and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) facilities. Through these activities, the foundation supports confidence in areas such as healthcare, food safety, environmental protection, manufacturing, sustainability and international trade.
TAF operates through a structure that includes a board of directors, supervisory functions, technical committees and dedicated accreditation departments. The foundation places strong emphasis on impartiality, independence and transparency, and works closely with professional associations, universities, industry groups and public-sector organizations throughout Taiwan to strengthen the country's quality infrastructure.
