Quality Council of the Czech Republic

The Quality Council of the Czech Republic (Rada kvality České republiky) is an advisory, initiating, and coordinating body of the Government of the Czech Republic, tasked with coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the Czech National Quality Policy 2023–2030. Established in 2000 by Government Resolution No. 458, and defined by statute in 2016, its scope also covers social responsibility, sustainable development, consumer protection, accreditation, certification, standardization, and metrology. The Council brings together representatives of ministries, supervisory and inspection authorities, accreditation and standardization bodies, business associations, consumer groups, and professional organizations. It is chaired by a president appointed by the Minister of Industry and Trade, with activities funded from the state budget.
Within the national quality infrastructure, the Council provides strategic direction and policy coordination, while technical functions are carried out by specialized institutions. These include the Czech Office for Standards, Metrology and Testing (ÚNMZ), which acts as the state authority, and the Czech Agency for Standardization (ČAS), which executes its standardization tasks, as well as the Czech Metrology Institute (ČMI) and the Czech Accreditation Institute (ČIA). The Council is closely linked to these institutions, for example through its expert section on quality infrastructure, chaired by a representative of the national accreditation body.
Internationally, the Council cooperates with organizations in areas such as quality, environmental management, safety, and social responsibility. Domestically, it is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the Czech National Quality Policy 2023–2030, presenting progress reports to the government every two years. It also oversees initiatives such as the National Quality Program and the National Quality Award, and organizes its work through specialized expert sections covering industry, trade, the public sector, sustainability, infrastructure, and family business.
