Luxembourg Office for Accreditation and Surveillance (OLAS)
Luxembourg Office for Accreditation and Surveillance (Office Luxembourgeois d’Accréditation et de Surveillance, OLAS) is Luxembourg's national accreditation body and a department of the Luxembourg Institute of Standardisation, Accreditation, Safety and Quality of Products and Services (ILNAS), a public administration operating under the authority of the Ministry of the Economy. OLAS is the sole accreditation body in Luxembourg in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 765/2008. It accredits conformity assessment bodies including testing and calibration laboratories, medical laboratories, inspection bodies, and certification bodies for products and management systems. In addition to accreditation, OLAS evaluates and monitors organizations seeking notification under European legislation and organizes audits related to Good Laboratory Practice.
OLAS participates in the European and international system of mutual recognition of accreditation. It is a signatory to the multilateral agreements of the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA) and, through those arrangements, also participates in the international recognition frameworks of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). These agreements help ensure that certificates, inspection reports and test results issued by organizations accredited by OLAS are accepted internationally, facilitating trade and reducing the need for duplicate assessments.
OLAS operates its own management system in accordance with ISO/IEC 17011, the international standard for accreditation bodies, and takes accreditation decisions independently. It also participates in the work of EA, ILAC and IAF, helping to maintain alignment with international accreditation requirements and practices.
Through its accreditation and notification activities, OLAS helps ensure confidence in testing, calibration, inspection and certification services carried out in Luxembourg. By supporting the international recognition of conformity assessment results, it contributes to market access for Luxembourg organizations and facilitates the movement of products and services across borders.
