Lithuanian National Accreditation Bureau (LA)

The Lithuanian National Accreditation Bureau (Nacionalinis akreditacijos biuras, LA) operates as Lithuania's national accreditation body, responsible for overseeing accreditation processes in compliance with European Union regulations and international standards. Established in 1998, LA functions under the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, previously reporting to the Ministry of Public Administration Reforms and Local Authorities. Its role is to maintain an impartial, transparent accreditation system that serves the Republic of Lithuania, accrediting conformity assessment bodies like testing and calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, and product certification entities according to ISO/IEC 17011:2017 standards. LA also monitors environmental verifiers under Regulation (EC) No 1221/2009 and ensures Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) compliance, which ensures quality and reliability in non-clinical laboratory studies.

LA’s international cooperation extends to memberships in key global organizations, including the European Cooperation for Accreditation (EA), International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), International Accreditation Forum (IAF), and the Forum of Accreditation and Licensing Bodies (FALB). Through these memberships and multilateral agreements, LA promotes mutual recognition of accreditation results, thus supporting international trade and enhancing public trust in conformity assessments.

In addition to its international cooperation, LA upholds a strict impartiality policy that ensures transparent, objective operations free from commercial or financial pressures. LA follows a rigorous accreditation process, which includes application submission, document review, on-site assessments, and ongoing surveillance, to ensure accredited bodies consistently meet required standards. These policies, along with LA’s commitment to high-quality standards, instill confidence in Lithuania’s accreditation system. For further details, please visit LA's official website.
