JASANZ - Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand

The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ) is the independent, third-party accreditation body for Australia and New Zealand. It was established on 30 October 1991 through a historic treaty, becoming the first trans-Tasman institution of its kind. JASANZ operates as a non-profit, government-backed body that accredits organizations which certify businesses, products, systems, and services. By ensuring these certifiers meet strict criteria for expertise and impartiality, JASANZ helps guarantee that certifications are reliable, internationally recognized, and a driver of trust in trade. Its role is distinct from that of the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) in Australia and International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ), which focus on laboratory and technical accreditation, while JASANZ oversees the accreditation of certification and inspection bodies.

JASANZ is deeply engaged in international cooperation. It is a founding member and signatory of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), a member and signatory to the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), and an active member of the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC). In addition, JASANZ represents Australia within the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Conformity Assessment Board and its related systems (IECEE, IECEx, IECQ, and IECRE). These memberships and recognitions ensure that certificates and inspection reports issued under JASANZ-accredited bodies are accepted globally, helping reduce technical barriers to trade and fostering stronger economic links.

Over more than 30 years, JASANZ has accredited 139 conformity assessment bodies, covering 139 schemes with over 140,000 accredited certificates used in more than 100 countries. Its work spans multiple sectors, including business and innovation, sustainability and environment, food and biological systems, health and human services, and product certification. JASANZ also supports governments in strengthening regulation and industries in accessing new markets. For more information, please visit its official website
