Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization (GSO)

The GCC - Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization is a regional standards body for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Established in 2001, GSO's main role is to develop and adopt standards to enhance the efficiency of industry, promote technological advancements, and ensure the safety, quality, and environmental friendliness of products and services across member countries.

GSO's work is crucial in facilitating trade and economic integration among GCC member states by harmonizing technical regulations and standards. This harmonization reduces technical barriers to trade within the Gulf region and with the world, enhancing the competitiveness of GCC products in international markets. GSO covers a wide range of product categories and sectors, including food products, construction materials, and electrical appliances, among others.

Additionally, GSO collaborates with international standardization bodies such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to ensure that the standards adopted within the GCC are in line with global best practices. This global alignment supports the GCC's strategic objectives of economic diversification and increased international trade. GSO also focuses on consumer protection, public health, and environmental sustainability in its standardization efforts.
