Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated - Global ACI
Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global ACI) is the international organization responsible for the global accreditation recognition system covering laboratories, certification bodies, inspection bodies, proficiency testing providers, validation and verification bodies, reference material producers and biobanks. Established in 2026, it operates the Global ACI Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MRA), which supports the international acceptance of accredited conformity assessment results and promotes confidence in accredited certificates, reports and statements worldwide.
Global ACI was created through the integration of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), becoming fully operational on January 1, 2026. The organization assumed the former international recognition and coordination roles of both bodies, creating a single global structure for accreditation cooperation. Through the Global ACI MRA, accreditation bodies that have successfully undergone peer evaluation can demonstrate the equivalence of their accreditation systems and support the cross-border acceptance of accredited conformity assessment activities.
International cooperation is central to Global ACI's work. The organization works with regional accreditation cooperations around the world and maintains liaison and cooperation arrangements with international organizations involved in standardization, metrology, trade, telecommunications and regulatory activities. These include ISO, IEC, BIPM, UNIDO, ITU and WADA. Through these relationships, Global ACI promotes harmonized accreditation practices and supports the use of accredited conformity assessment as a tool for trade facilitation, regulatory confidence and consumer protection.
Global ACI also develops policies, guidance documents and technical publications for the international accreditation community. Its members include accreditation bodies, regional cooperation organizations and stakeholder organizations from around the world. The organization maintains the Global ACI MRA, oversees peer evaluation activities and provides a framework through which accredited conformity assessment results can be recognised across national borders.
As part of the transition from IAF and ILAC, Global ACI is also introducing a new Global ACI MRA Mark. Transitional arrangements currently allow continued use of the former IAF MLA and ILAC MRA marks under specified conditions while the new mark becomes legally available in individual economies. This phased approach is intended to ensure continuity for accreditation bodies and accredited conformity assessment bodies during the changeover to the Global ACI system.
