National Standards And Quality Department (NSQD) Myanmar

The National Standards and Quality Department (NSQD) of Myanmar is the primary institution responsible for ensuring quality and standards within the country. Its key mandate is to establish and maintain Myanmar's National Quality Infrastructure (NQI). This initiative is focused on three main pillars: Standardization, Accreditation, and Metrology. These areas are vital for building a framework that supports trade, enhances industrial competitiveness, and ensures public safety and environmental protection.

Pillars of the National Quality Infrastructure

  1. Standardization
The NSQD leads Myanmar's efforts in developing national standards that align with international norms. This work ensures that local industries can compete globally while protecting the health, safety, and welfare of Myanmar's citizens. Standardization also provides a platform for the country’s industries to adopt best practices and stay current with global trends.

  2. Accreditation
Accreditation is another critical pillar managed by the NSQD, which oversees the certification of conformity assessment bodies such as laboratories, inspection, and certification entities. By ensuring that these organizations are competent to perform their tasks, Myanmar can guarantee that its products and services meet both national and international quality standards.

  3. Metrology
The NSQD also manages the field of metrology, which deals with measurements. Accurate and reliable measurement systems are fundamental to various sectors, including manufacturing, health, and trade. Metrology ensures that all measurements are traceable and consistent with international benchmarks, fostering transparency and trust.

International Cooperation

The National Standards and Quality Department of Myanmar actively cooperates with international organizations to align Myanmar's quality infrastructure with global standards. It works closely with bodies such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). This collaboration helps Myanmar stay up-to-date with the latest global quality initiatives, fostering smoother trade relations and contributing to the overall economic development of the country.

By fostering strong ties with these global entities, Myanmar is positioning itself as a competitive player in international markets. This, in turn, enhances the country's ability to attract foreign investment and drive local innovation.
