Japanese Standards Association (JSA)

The Japanese Standards Association (JSA) is a non-governmental organization that serves as Japan’s national center for standardization support and education. Founded in 1945 and authorized by the Minister of Trade and Industry, JSA works in partnership with the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) and the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC) as part of Japan’s national quality infrastructure. While JISC, under METI, directs the formulation of Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS), JSA drafts and publishes Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) on its behalf and promotes their use through publications, seminars, and training.

Headquartered in Tokyo’s Mita district, JSA leads the JSA Group - comprising JSA Solutions Co., Ltd., the Japanese Registration of Certificated Auditors (JRCA), and the Registration Centers for Certificated Translators (RCCT) and Standardization Experts (RCES - under the slogan “Standards that connect the world.” Its activities include publishing and selling JIS, ISO, IEC, and other foreign standards; developing draft JIS; conducting research on quality management and standardization; and offering professional certification programs such as JRCA and QC KENTEI.

Since 2017, JSA has also developed JSA Standards and Specifications - private-sector standards created through transparent and agile processes to address emerging technologies and services beyond the scope of the Industrial Standardization Act. Through cooperation with AFNOR, BSI, and DIN, JSA helps Japanese industry link domestic innovation with international best practice. As part of Japan’s quality infrastructure, it continues to advance education, certification, and dissemination activities that underpin national competitiveness and global trust in Japanese standards. More information is available on JSA’s official website.
