Estonian Centre for Standardisation and Accreditation (EVS)

The Estonian Centre for Standardisation and Accreditation (Mittetulundusühing Eesti Standardimis- ja Akrediteerimiskeskus, EVS) is the national standards body and accreditation authority of Estonia. It began operations on April 1, 2000, under the Technical Regulation and Standards Act. Until the end of 2020, it operated as the Estonian Centre for Standardisation, but from January 1, 2021, its scope was expanded to include accreditation services after taking over from the Estonian Accreditation Centre. This change consolidated both functions under one organization supported by the government through annual targeted funding.

EVS develops and adopts Estonian standards, provides opportunities for participation in the preparation of European and international standards, and distributes information on standardization while also offering training. Through its accreditation arm, the Estonian Accreditation Centre (EAK), it ensures the competence of conformity assessment bodies. The Centre works under the Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012 on European standardization and is overseen by the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications. EVS is also committed to quality, operating a management system based on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Internationally, EVS represents Estonia as a full member of CEN, CENELEC, and ISO, and as an associate member of the IEC. Its experts also take part in management bodies such as the CEN and CENELEC Technical Boards and the CEN-CENELEC Joint Commercial Activities Group. Further information about technical committee participation and ongoing work is available on the EVS website.
