Estonian Accreditation Centre (EAK)

The Estonian Accreditation Centre (Eesti Akrediteerimiskeskus, EAK) serves as Estonia's national accreditation body. As a structural unit of the non-profit association Estonian Centre for Standardisation and Accreditation (EVS|EAK), EAK is responsible for accrediting testing, calibration, and verification laboratories, as well as certification and inspection bodies. Established on January 4, 2000, by the Minister of Economic Affairs, EAK was formed to ensure the technical competence of conformity assessment bodies across Estonia. Its operations adhere to the Metrology Act and the Product Conformity Act, which set forth its tasks and regulatory framework.

Internationally, EAK actively collaborates as a member of the European co-operation for Accreditation (EA) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). EAK has been a full member of EA since June 2000, a signatory to the EA Multilateral Agreement (MLA) in various accreditation fields since 2004, and a participant in the ILAC Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) since 2023. These memberships support EAK's goal to maintain international standards and technical alignment.

EAK’s responsibilities include establishing technical committees to guide the interpretation and implementation of accreditation standards, handling appeals and complaints, and training assessors annually. It also conducts annual information days to keep stakeholders updated on industry developments. EAK’s Accreditation Council, comprising representatives from government, academia, and industry, oversees accreditation policies, contributes to the national strategy, and reviews annual activity reports. The management system, based on EVS-EN ISO/IEC 17011, is meticulously documented to ensure operational transparency and competence. For more information, please visit its official website.
